I can’t let American Heart Month end without talki I can’t let American Heart Month end without talking about my own journey with heart disease. It’s not something I talk about a lot because honestly, I try to forget that it’s an issue for me, but it happened, and it’s part of my story now!

When my heart failed after my first daughter was born in 2007, it was a very scary time. The picture above is before I knew what was happening… I just thought I was a wuss because I couldn’t breathe very well after childbirth. But then the doctor told me I was in heart failure, shouldn’t ever have more children and would likely end up needing a heart transplant. And for a long time, I had trouble moving on from the unfairness and the things that I lost because of my heart failure, What I learned back then was the same thing I’m still learning now: our hearts have to stay balanced. They take in, they let go. Beat after beat after beat. And sometimes, it’s the letting go part that gets us in trouble... that causes our hearts to fail.

I did recover from my heart failure, although I’ll be on meds forever to keep my heart pumping regularly after all the damage. And I’m so proud to say that almost 19 years later my experience fueled an idea for a book that people around the world are reading!

Every Borrowed Beat is about the letting go... holding on to what matters and releasing our grip on all the rest. This book definitely is the book of my heart 💜💜💜
